Who are the Blondes?Four blokes from the wrong side of the Severn Bridge, all in their early twenties.
They formed eight months ago after singer/guitarist Ronan Breslin (22yrs old) fell out with Welsh Lo-fi teeny types Disco, and fell in with 21 year old guitarist James Lawrence. The line up was then completed by
youngest member Pete Howell on drums (20yrs old) and Jamie Theakston lookalike Keven Bader (22yrs old) on bass after their chance meeting in a police line-up.
Influences
With a healthy love
of the Stones, an equally healthy hate for the Verve and a record collection which completely overlooks the musical genius of the Stereophonics, it can only be presumed that if you give these boys a guitar they are more
likely to rewrite the music to Quadrophenia than to write the next AC/DC album.
So you're not too keen on Welsh music then?
Ronan: We're not opposed to Welsh music, we're opposed to the mediocracy of
a lot of Welsh bands.
James: Anyway, Cerys had a huge influence on our drinking habits so it can't all be bad!
What are the Blondes all about?
Ronan: We are an antidote to the malingering odour of teen angst. Music just seems to have grown so stale over the last few years, you can hardly blame the kids for getting
into Playstations and Another Level instead of guitar music. Everyone seems afraid to mess things up a bit, cause a stir. Look at the Manics - they have become the epitome of Banality, with Nicky Wire moaning on about
hoovers all the time because of the lack of anything remotely interesting to say.
James: With us it's firstly about music, but it is more than that. It is about life.
Ronan: Basically, if
it all finishes tomorrow we will be back to where it started - on the dole. So what have we got to lose?
